Why PrestaShop?
Trusted by eCommerce giants eBay, Danone, and PayPal.
PrestaShop is a freemium open source eCommerce platform written in PHP. Originally called phpOpenStore, it was developed in France in 2005 as a graduation project by Bruno Lévêque. Together with Igor Schlumberger, Lévêque released PrestaShop as free open source software in 2007.
PrestaShop generates its revenue from Prestashop addons and from developing strategic partnerships with eCommerce and other technology companies. PrestaShop was on the 2016 Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in Europe. Its mission is to enable anyone to establish a successful eCommerce business.
PrestaShop’s innovative extensions have changed online shopping norms, for example introducing the concept of price negotiation.
Customer-Centric Shopping
PrestaShop encourages shopper engagement with some practical and some quirky features to help shoppers navigate an online store and have a great user experience doing it. For instance, the Ajax Shopping Cart module adds a hover event to the shopping cart button so shoppers can check their products without going to the shopping cart page. The Advanced Related Products module highlights complementary products for what the customer is already purchasing, for example hair conditioner to match a branded shampoo.
Flexible Enough to Appeal to a Wide Market
Prestashop promotes a very basic eCommerce business model, focusing on facilitating straightforward transaction processes and allowing businesses to focus on generating sales. But it is powerful enough to provide businesses selling highly customizable products to configure prices according to individual product metrics to improve sales. The combinations generator tool allows retailers to list products with variants on selected attributes, for example by using price rules.
Mitigate Shopping Cart Fails
Focused on generating sales, PrestaShop market has multiple modules that help to make the shopping cart a sales generator in its own right. A Remarketing and Shopping Cart Abandonment module works by automatically sending reminders (with a tempting coupon attached) to shoppers who have abandoned their shopping carts, increasing conversion rates dramatically. PrestaShop also helps to mitigate annoying shopping cart fails, like being able to add products to a cart even when there is no stock available.
PrestaShop Product Customization
A PrestaShop Custom Price module allows customers to perform live product customization during their purchase. A Pay Your Price module allows customers to make an offer, negotiate a price, and buy a product at the price they can afford. Custom Design modules allow customers to add images and create personalized text to their products before purchasing.
