Rather than storing your website data on one server in one location, a second and exact copy of your data is also stored in a secondary server in a secondary location, meaning that your data will exist in two geographically separate locations using our Vancouver and Toronto data centers.
If there is an issue with your site, server or the entire data center causing it to be inaccessible, within minutes the traffic will be automatically routed to the secondary server in the other data center. This significantly reduces downtime, and ensures redundancy over multiple locations. Once the primary server is back up, traffic will be routed back automatically.
There are two ways that we maintain this link, either through an instant or time delayed replication process. The former is critically important when you have ever changing databases that need to be in sync, where the latter can be used more for when site content isn’t changing by the minute.
