It was originally developed in 1994 by Michael Widenius, co-founder of the Swedish company MySQL AB; however, in 2008, it was acquired by Sun Microsystems, which Oracle acquired in 2010.   • MySQL 8.0. Released in April 2018, this is the latest version of MySQL. It includes multiple enhancements, including NoSQL Document Store, JSON Extended syntax, new JSON functions, and many performance improvements. This is one of the most popular versions among developers who want to push MySQL to the limit in MySQL 8-compatible applications. This version will be supported until April 2026.
